Custom Coastal Bunk Nook for a Beachfront Condo
"First impressions matter — especially in a beachfront condo."
The first thing guests saw when they opened the door needed to feel like the beginning of a coastal escape.
First impressions matter—especially in a beachfront condo. Unfortunately, the first thing guests saw when they opened the door was a plain set of bunk beds that felt more like a sleeping arrangement squeezed into the entryway than the beginning of a coastal escape. Functional? Yes. Worthy of the view waiting beyond it? Not quite.
The existing bunk nook was transformed into an intentional feature of the condo. Soft ocean blue surrounds the beds, while a weathered white finish gives the structure the character of something shaped by years beside the sea. Custom storage below was finished with hand-painted mermaid and whale details, turning two ordinary drawers into artwork of their own.
A sculptural whale appears to swim above the bunks, surrounded by soft blue lighting that gives the entire nook an underwater glow. New rails, a coordinating ladder and dark privacy curtains completed the space while keeping it practical for guests.
Instead of something to hurry past on the way to the beach, the bunks became the condo's first little glimpse of the magic waiting outside—a playful coastal hideaway worthy of being the first thing guests see.
